What is ProFeme?
ProFeme is an external transdermal cream that contains a type of progesterone that is as natural to your body as the progesterone it produces internally. Progesterone is needed to ensure hormonal balance in women, it is of huge importance to menstruation, reproduction, moods swings, metabolism and energy levels. Each 1ml of ProFeme progesterone cream contains 100ml of natural progesterone. A tube of ProFeme is 50ml.
How to apply ProFeme?
There are a few issues that need to be addressed when applying proFeme progesterone cream.
How to measure the correct dose – Each tube of ProFeme comes with an application syringe. The syringe has ml dosage markings of 0.5ml. Insert the tip of the syringe into the tube opening at the top. Gently squeeze the bottom of the tube until the cream reaches the opening of the tube. Slowly withdraw the plunger of the syringe so cream flows into the barrel of the applicator. You stop when you reach the required dosage mark.
Close the tube opening with the cap and then depress the plunger containing your measured dose onto the correct area of skin. Massage the cream into the skin and then rinse the applicator syringe so it is ready for the next dosage. (Make sure the cap is firmly closed)
If you notice some bubbles in the barrel alongside the cream, add a bit more cream so it is just past the ml marking that you need to compensate. If you overfill, squeeze the plunger down very gently so the excess cream flows back into the tube.
Where to apply ProFeme – Apply ProFeme to the upper thigh or inner forearm for optimal results. Apply ProFeme daily and never internally to the genital skin or to damaged or irritated skin.
How often to apply ProFeme – ProFeme is not like other medications that require continual daily application. It depends on your menstrual cycle and condition. When you do apply it, the cream should be used at the same time each day that you do apply it.
ProFeme Dosage Instructions
Dosage depends on your condition and the severity of your condition. When your doctor is writing the prescription they will explain to you how much you should use and on what days. Progesterone therapy works alongside your menstrual cycle so it is normally tailored to your individually. While your doctor will confirm how much to use and when to use it, we have included some basic instructions for common conditions.
Peri-menopause, mild Endometriosis, Fibroids, PMS (pre-menstrual syndrome) – 0.3ml should be used daily or on days 12-26 of your cycle. (the other days are considered a “break”, then resume the cycle. You should feel the effects after 2-3 months, if not the dosage may need to be increased. The dosage can be increased to up to 2ml daily. (Read about perimenopause and progesterone)
PMDD (pre-menstrual dysphoric disorder) – 0.5ml should be used daily or on days 12-26 of your cycle. You should feel the effects after 2-3 months.
Severe Endometriosis and Post Natal depression – 1-2ml should be applied daily on days 12-26 of your cycle. Sometimes this cycle period needs to be increased to 3 weeks use in every month if you experience withdrawal side effects.
Infertility and early term miscarriage – Application for these conditions is trickier and more tailored. (Read about early miscarriage and progesterone levels). If you are using ProFeme for luteal phase or first-trimester corpus luteal support, use 1ml proFeme daily or on days 12-26 of your cycle until you fall pregnant. Continuing using 1-2ml daily until at least 13 weeks of pregnancy or until full term, depending on what your doctor suggests. If you are prone to miscarriage, use 0.3ml on days 12-26 of your cycle prior to conceiving. You should continue this until pregnancy is confirmed. If you experience spotting weeks 6-7 of the pregnancy, then use a high dose (100mg-200mg) two or three times a day until you have reached full term.
It is also worth noting that Sometimes 4-5 days before menstruation you will be asked by your doctor to alter your dose so you can achieve a crescendo effect before menstruation begins. This is especially true if you are suffering from PMS or PMDD.
I forgot to apply ProFeme? Do I need to miss a dose?
Don’t worry if you are late taking a dose although try to let that happen. Apply ProFeme like normal as soon as you remember. If it has been more than 9 hours past the usual application time, wait until your next application and apply like normal. Missing a single dose is not detrimental to your treatment plan.
Are there side effects?
Every medication used can cause side effects. Typical side effects of ProFeme include skin rashes or irritation at the site of application, tender breasts, nausea/lightheadedness, headaches and fatigue. Most of these side effects dissipate over time once your body is used to the progesterone therapy. If not, then dosage may have to be adjusted.
